GDC Marh celebrates Int’l Mother Language Day

Jammu : To mark the Silver Jubilee celebration of International Mother Language Day, Government Degree College Marh organized a one day Dogri Cultural Programme.
Prof. Dr. Lalit Magotra was the chief guest. The programme started with the lighting of the lamp and SarastwatiVandana.
Principal of the college Prof (Dr) Rakesh Kumar Koul stressed on encouraging research on vernacular languages in educational systems particularly, in the regions with diverse linguistic backgrounds like Jammu and Kashmir.
Prof. Dr. Lalit Magotra, in his introductory speech, talked about the significance of celebrating this occasion as it is dedicated to honoring our mother tongues, preserving regional languages and promoting cultural communication within the nation. He also stressed that every individual has to prove his respect, love for his mother tongue by speaking it with others and one should not forget the linguistic traditional roots that bind the community together. Other dignitaries who graced the occasion by presenting their poetry were Sushil Begana, Lal Chand and Pawan Verma.
The students of the college presented melodious Dogri folk songs and folk Dances to amuse the gathering. The main highlight was the recitation of Dogri poems by the students of the Middle School, Marh namely Muskan, Kritika and Roshni. Plantation Drive was also carried out on the college campus by Lalit Magotra and invited guests. The event also included the showcasing of local avian flora, Duggar kitchenware comprising Folk earthen utensils, schika, Kujja, Gaggar etc. and also served Dogra cuisines.
All the students who participated in the event were felicitated with prizes. Refreshments were also served to the students. The proceedings of the event were conducted by Dr. Sheetal Devi (HOD, Dogri) and formal vote of thanks by Dr. Shiksha (Lecturer, Hindi).
The overall programme was organized and coordinated by the members of the Cultural and Literary Committee of the college.
