Srinagar : As part of its ongoing community outreach initiatives, the Directorate of Lifelong Learning (DLL), University of Kashmir (KU), in collaboration with University Health Centre and Moul Mouj Foundation, organized a one-day medical and health awareness camp at Mir Behri, Dal, Saidakadal, Srinagar, under the Area-Based Community Development (ABCD) approach.
The camp focused on providing free medical consultations, medicines, and diagnostic services to elderly population of the area, with a special emphasis on geriatric care.
Doctors at the camp conducted thorough check-ups, focusing on age-related ailments such as hypertension, diabetes, Joint problems, and other chronic conditions. They also educated the attendees on maintaining a healthy lifestyle, proper nutrition, and the importance of regular medical screenings.
In her message Vice Chancellor University of Kashmir (KU) Prof Nilofer Khan said “We are deeply committed to the well-being of our communities. Our community-based health and medical camps reflect our dedication to extending quality healthcare services to those in need, especially in underserved areas. These initiatives not only provide essential medical support but also foster a culture of social responsibility among our students and faculty.”
Director DLL KU, Prof. Shazia Manzoor, stressed on the importance of such outreach programs in improving healthcare access for the elderly, who are often overlooked in underdeveloped areas.
“Older adults face unique health challenges and access to regular medical check-ups and preventive care is crucial for their well-being,” she said.
The medical consultations were led by Senior Geriatric Consultant and Chairperson of Moul Mouj Foundation, Dr. Zubair Saleem while Dr. Khalid Nazir, Coordinator, Health Centre KU, provided dental health awareness and consultation.
Around 250 patients from the area visited the camp and got benefited from specialized healthcare services and awareness sessions conducted by expert doctors. Residents of Mir Behri expressed their gratitude for the initiative of bringing essential healthcare services to their doorstep.
