Multi-disciplinary Research Unit, GMC Srinagar’s 4th LRAC meeting highlights achievements

Srinagar : The fourth Local Research Advisory Committee (LRAC) meeting of the Multidisciplinary Research Unit (MRU) was held at Government Medical College Srinagar (GMC).
The meeting aimed to review the progress of research projects being carried out in MRU-GMC Sgr, which is funded by the Department of Health Research (DHR), Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India.
The meeting was chaired by Prof. Dr. Khurshid Iqbal and Co-Chaired by Prof. Dr. Bashir Ahmad Ganai, Director CORD Univ of Kashmir, with Prof. Dr. Iffat Hassan, Principal/Dean GMC Sgr, as the observer and Chairperson of the Executive Committee, MRU-GMC Sgr.
ICMR nominee Dr. Tanu Anand was also present. Prof. Dr Sabhiya Majid, Nodal Officer, MRU, and Scientist C MRU-GMC Sgr, Dr. Younis Rather, presented notable achievements and modulated the proceedings.
The meeting highlighted the dedicated efforts of the MRU team in advancing the MRU scheme and providing broad-based research and infrastructure support to various departments of GMC Srinagar and its associated hospitals.
Principal Investigators (PIs) from various departments, including Psychiatry, Physiology, Chest Medicine, Dermatology, Biochemistry, Endocrinology, Gynae & Obs, Surgery, Paediatrics, Neurology, and Medicine, presented reports on eight recently completed or ongoing collaborative research projects.
These projects focus on understanding the molecular and pathological basis of diseases, developing targeted treatment approaches, improving diagnostics, and advancing medical technology for better disease management and patient outcomes.
The research has led to 12 recent publications in peer-reviewed indexed journals with an impact factor of 4-5.
Research proposals were presented by PIs from various departments for approval, and four proposals from the Departments of Dermatology, Microbiology, and Medicine were approved by LRAC with concrete suggestions. Additionally, it was decided that a compendium of research carried out in MRU-GMC Srinagar would be published annually.
