Jammu : The Department of Strategic and Regional Studies (DSRS), University of Jammu, organized an educational tour to the Akhnoor Heritage Museum. The visit aimed to deepen students’ understanding of the region’s rich cultural history while providing a unique opportunity to learn about India’s defence capabilities through a special weapon display by the Indian Army.
According to a statement issued from Public Relations Office University of Jammu here, the event began with a guided tour of the Akhnoor Heritage Museum, a site that preserves the glorious past of the region, showcasing artefacts, manuscripts, sculptures, and relics from various eras, including the Saptsindhu civilization. Students were introduced to the significance of Akhnoor in the context of Jammu’s history, with its strategic location on the banks of the Chenab River and its archaeological importance. The museum curator provided an in-depth briefing on the ancient heritage of the area. The students also had the privilege of witnessing a weapon display organized by the Indian Army. The display showcased an array of modern weaponry and equipment used in safeguarding the nation’s borders. Army personnel provided detailed explanations of the capabilities and operational significance of the weapons, giving the students a glimpse into the discipline, strategy, and dedication of India’s armed forces. Dr. Mohd.Monir Alam, Sr. Assistant Professor, JU remarked, “This visit offered a perfect blend of history and modern defence strategies, helping students connect the past with the present. It is crucial for scholars of strategic studies to understand both the heritage of the region and the operational capabilities of our armed forces.” Dr. Ganesh Malhotra and Dr. Ranjan Sharma also accompanied the students and lauded the Indian Army’s efforts in promoting awareness and fostering a sense of national pride among students. Students actively interacted with Army officials, asking insightful questions about defence technology and India’s strategic challenges. They expressed gratitude for the opportunity to understand the sacrifices and preparedness of the Indian Army while exploring the cultural roots of Jammu.
