KU researcher receives prestigious Tata grant to study leukemia

Srinagar : Dr. Altaf Bhat, faculty at Centre for Interdisciplinary Research and Innovations (CIRI), University of Kashmir (KU), has been awarded around Rs 1.5 crore research grant by the Lady Tata Memorial Trust to study the genomic underpinnings of leukemia.
According to a statement issued from Centre for Public Relations University of Kashmir, Srinagar the grant supports Dr. Bhat’s project to explore the role of chromatin modifiers in regulating 3D genome organization during leukemia. The research aims to uncover new insights and develop efficient therapeutic strategies for the disease.
Vice-Chancellor KU, Prof. Nilofer Khan, congratulated Dr. Bhat on this prestigious achievement. “This grant highlights the university’s growing reputation as a hub for high-quality interdisciplinary research. CIRI is evolving into a world-class center, contributing significantly to the academic and research excellence of our institution,” she said.
Prof. Khan also emphasized the importance of the state-of-the-art instrumentation facilities established at CIRI.
“These facilities not only enhance research quality but also provide vital training opportunities for our students. Such advancements elevate the university’s standing at both national and international levels,” she added.
The research grant marks another milestone for the University, reaffirming its dedication to advancing scientific research and developing innovative solutions to critical health issues.
