Srinagar : A special Swachhata campaign organized by the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) concluded on Friday with a high-spirited Nukkad Natak at the iconic Ghanta Ghar (Clock Tower) in Lal Chowk, leaving tourists and locals amazed.
The four-day drive, held from January 21 to 24, featured various activities like street plays, blogging runs, and competitions to stress cleanliness and the upkeep of tourist spots.
The SMC Commissioner, Dr. Owais Ahmed, speaking about the campaign said, the aim was to engage locals in the mission to make Srinagar cleaner and more welcoming.
“Activities like Nukkad Natak help convey the message in an interactive and impactful way,” he said.
The street play performed by local artists in front of the historical Clock Tower also highlighted the consequences of littering and the importance of individual responsibility in keeping the city clean. “The performers received applause from the crowd, many of whom stopped by, to capture the event on their phones.”
Moreover, SMC on its social media X handle wrote: SMC hosted Swachhta-themed Nukkad Natak for Pre-Republic Day 2025 at Iconic Ghanta Ghar, Lal Chowk. Theme: ‘Swachhtantra – Gantantra Ki Shaan, Swachhta Se Bane Mahaan,’ street plays by artists highlighted waste management & community responsibility.
Meanwhile, the campaign also included blogging runs and competitions at various tourist sites over the last few days, which saw participation from both locals and visitors. According to officials, such initiatives will continue to ensure Srinagar remains one of the cleanest cities in the region
