DDC Kupwara reviews progress achieved under JJM

Kupwara : The District Development Commissioner (DDC) Kupwara, Ayushi Sudan on Thursday chaired a review meeting of concerned officers to assess the progress of the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) in the district.
The mission, aimed at providing functional household tap connections (FHTC) to every rural household, is one of the flagship programs of the Government of India to ensure universal access to safe and adequate drinking water.
During the meeting, the DDC reviewed the ongoing work in the district under JJM, including the status of water supply schemes, the number of households covered under FHTC, and the progress of the infrastructure being developed to ensure the sustainability and quality of water supply.
It was informed in the meeting that 1.28 lakh of the total 1.56 lakh targeted households have been connected with functional tap connections.
It was also informed that out of 247 allotted Water Supply Schemes, 115 works have been completed in PHE Divisions of Kupwara & Handwara and SSD Tangdar and work is in progress to complete the rest of the schemes.
Regarding Dug well works, it was informed that 14 works were allotted in the district out of which 11 stands completed, besides, 10 bore-wells were also completed. Besides, 15 water supply schemes in PHE Division Kupwara, 10 schemes in PHE Division Handwara and 5 schemes in SSD Tangdar have been commissioned under JJM.
The DDC also reviewed the progress of Rapid Sand Filtration Plants, Over Head Tanks, Pipe Networks, Electro-Mechanical schemes and Pipe availability.
The DDC directed the concerned officers to ensure that all the ongoing water supply schemes and other allied works are completed within the stipulated time frame.
She expressed her dismay over the laxity of the officers in fulfilling the targets of several schemes in their jurisdictions and warned them about strict action if the projects are not accomplished well within the timeline.
District Superintendent Engineer PHE, ACD, CPO, Executive Engineers of PHE Division Kupwara & Handwara; AEEs, AEs and other concerned officers attended the meeting.
