Samba : The Office of the Deputy Commissioner, State Taxes Enforcement, Samba, has achieved notable success in combating GST evasion and ensuring compliance during the financial year 2024-25.
Acting under the directions and supervision of the Commissioner, State Taxes, J&K, P.K. Bhat, and Additional Commissioner (Administration and Enforcement), Jammu Namrata Dogra, the enforcement team led by Deputy Commissioner Sanjay Gupta has imposed penalties amounting to ₹1,73,14,100 through rigorous enforcement drives.
The department also completed inspections of industrial units availing tax reimbursements under relevant SROs, reinforcing fiscal discipline and transparency.
As part of its enforcement efforts, the department verified 3,02,261 e-way bills during the year—a remarkable 63% increase compared to the previous financial year. Focused drives targeting high-tax-prone commodities such as scrap, cement, tobacco, and granite/marble goods resulted in penalties of ₹29.66 lakh on scrap dealers, ₹23.44 lakh on granite/marble goods, ₹17.50 lakh on tobacco products, and ₹10 lakh on cement traders. These actions underline the department’s proactive measures to address tax evasion in critical sectors.
Additionally, the department successfully conducted inspections of industrial units eligible for tax reimbursements under SRO 519, SRO 521 (dated 21.12.2017), and SRO 63 (dated 05.02.2018) for the second quarter of FY 2024-25. These inspections, falling under the jurisdiction of Circles Kathua I and Kathua II, were conducted by a team led by STOs Raj Kumar Badgal and Farooq Choudhary, along with Inspectors Jagandeep Singh and Anil Kumar Sharma, under the directions of Additional Commissioner Namrata Dogra. The inspections ensured compliance and transparency in the reimbursement process.
Strategic initiatives such as the establishment of 24×7 nakas to monitor goods movement, advanced data analytics to identify discrepancies, and constant guidance from senior officials have played a pivotal role in achieving enforcement objectives and safeguarding government revenue.
Deputy Commissioner Sanjay Gupta lauded the enforcement teams for their dedication to ensuring GST compliance and emphasized the importance of sustaining these efforts in the future. He reiterated the department’s commitment to promoting voluntary compliance while adopting stringent measures against willful defaulters.
