First ever ‘Inter Zonal Display Your Talent’ commences at JU

Jammu : The first ever ‘Inter-Zonal Display Your Talent 2024-25’ commenced today at the University of Jammu which is an annual feature of the Department of Students Welfare, University of Jammu. In this event students from the affiliated degree colleges and university departments participate in 27 different competitions viz music, dance, literary, fine-arts and theatrical activities. Prof. Meena Sharma, Dean Planning & Development was the Chief Guest of the inaugural function and Dr. Neeraj Sharma, Registrar was the Special Guest on the occasion. Prof. Pankaj Srivastava, Director DDOE, Prof. Alka Sharma, Director SIIEDC, Prof. Vinay Chauhan, Director TBS, Prof. Monika Chadha, Chairperson CCC, Prof. Sarika Manhas, Co-Chairperson CCC and other senior functionaries of the university also attended the programme which started with the lighting of traditional lamp by the dignitaries.
The new format of Display Your Talent has been envisioned by Prof. Umesh Rai, Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu which has witnessed a larger participation of the students from the far-flung areas. All the affiliated colleges from Jammu province were distributed into 5 Zones; Tawi Zone, Pir- Panjal Zone, Devika Zone, Ravi Zone and Chenab Zone where Zonal Level Display Your Talent competitions were organized and the winners of those competitions are now competing in Inter Zonal Level.
Prof. Meena Sharma, in her address, welcomed all the participants to this great platform which has provided inspiration to hundreds of its alumni. She stated that such programmes enable students to understand their inner spark which acts as guiding light in their life. She stated that such activities are an important part of the curriculum.
To encourage the participating students, Dr. Neeraj Sharma, who himself is a promoter of arts, presented a guest performance of singing.
Prof. Prakash Antahal, Dean Students Welfare, in his welcome address expressed gladness over the participation of the students from various regions. He wished good luck to the participants for the successful completion of this mega event. He also expressed gratitude towards Prof. Arvind Jasrotia, Rector Kathua Campus, Prof. Yash Pal Sharma, Rector Udhampur Campus, Prof. K.K. Sharma, Principal GPGC, Rajouri and Dr. Adit Gupta, Director MIER for successfully conducting Zonal Level DYT in their respective institutions.
Prof. Monika Chadha, Chairperson, Campus Cultural Committee apprised the audience about the brief history of ‘Display Your Talent’ and also presented a report on the new format of DYT and Prof. Sarika Manhas Co-Chairperson Campus Cultural Committee presented the vote of thanks.
On the occasion, Prof. Garima Gupta was felicitated for her remarkable and successful tenure as Assistant Deans in the office of DSW. Teacher Incharges of Zonal Level DYT were also felicitated for their contributions.
In Group Song Indian, the First position was secured by the team of Institute of Music and Fine Arts, GCW Parade stood Second and the Third position was secured by GLDM College, Hiranagar. The Certificate of Merit was awarded to GDC Udhampur. Dr. Shashi Prabha was the Teacher In-Charge of the event.
In Light Vocal Solo, the First position was secured by Ritesha Manhas from GCW Parade, the Second position was shared by Nirmal Kumar from IMFA and Ankush Malhotra from GDC Kathua, the Third position was shared by Laksh from GDC Udhampur and Habil Subh from GLDM College Hiranagar. Dr. Neelam Chaudhary was the Teacher In-Charge of the event.
In Folk Dance, the First position was clinched by Department of Commerce, JU, Second position was secured by DD & OE, JU and GDC Udhampur stood Third. Dr. Sandeep Singh was the teacher incharge for the event.
In Western Group Song, GCW Parade, GDC Kathua and GCW Udhampur stood First, Second & Third respectively. Dr. Jyoti Sharma was the teacher incharge of the event.
In Western Vocal Solo, Ritisha Manhas from GCW Parade stood First, the Second position was shared by Kunwar langer from the Law School and Mehak Akhter from Department of Sociology, JU. Umesh from GDC Kathua stood Third and the Certificate of Merit was awarded to Ansh Pawar from Bhaskar Degree College. Dr. Pallavi Sachdeva was the teacher incharge of the event.
In Western Instrumental Solo, Sahil Sandhu from GDC Marh stood First, Ansh Pawar from Bhaskar Degree College stood Second and Certificate of Merit was awarded to Aarav Nargotra from IMFA. Dr. Ashwan Kushwaha was the teacher incharge of the event.
The esteemed adjudicators of the events include (Indian Singing) Prof. Harvinder Singh, Dr. Kuldeep Raina, Mr. Arundeep Singh and Mr. Tajinder Singh. (Folk Dance) Dr. Priya Dutta, Mr. Satish Chander & Mr. Ravi Sharma. (Western Singing) Mr. Amarjeet Singh & Mr. Anish Mattoo.
The events of DSW are conceived, planned and organised by the team consisting of Prof. Prakash Antahal (Dean Students Welfare), Prof. Monika Chadha (Chairperson, Campus Cultural Committee), Prof. Sarika Manhas (Co-Chairperson, Campus Cultural Committee), Dr. Pritam Singh (Associate Dean SW), Dr. Shallu Sharma & Dr. A.R. Manhas (Deputy Chief Proctors), Dr. Harleen Kaur & Dr. Ripudaman Parihar (Assistant Dean, SW), members of Campus Cultural Committee, Ms Mansi Mantoo (Media Officer), Sumeet Sharma (Drama Instructor) and Ifra Kak (Cultural Officer). The events were witnessed by the members of Campus Cultural Committee, teachers, students, scholars of the University of Jammu and prominent members of the civil society.
The hall was managed by Rohan Sharma, Veranym Sharma, Sheetal Singh, Pawan Kotwal, Deep Uday Singh, Himanshu, Kanureet Kaur, Suhani Gupta & Heemanshu Tickoo, Shiena Singh (Departmental Cultural Representatives). Sachin Sharma, Jatinder Singh & R.P. Singh. The sound was looked after by Kulbhushan Thakur and Arif Paul.
On 18th January, the events of Classical Vocal Solo & Classical Instrumental, Folk Instrumental, Cartooning, Painting, Installation & Mehandi would be conducted at Brig. Rajinder Singh Auditorium, University of Jammu, 10am onwards.
