Changing timelines for fulfilment of poll promises does not augur well for any popular Government in any State or Union Territory and even at the Centre and same holds good for the Omar Abdullah led National Conference Government in Jammu & Kashmir. Given the massive mandate the Omar Abdullah led National Conference recieved in 2024 assembly elections the fulfilment of poll promises should not have taken much time but the Chief Minister himself and as well as his ministerial colleagues by virtue of their statements are changing timelines for the fulfilment of poll promises on both basic social services and as well as some policy decisions after every passing day. While the people don’t have to say anything against the Chief Minister on restoration of statehood given the fact that the authority and power to restore the statehood lies with the Central Government already committed to it, the delay in fulfilment of poll promises on ration quota, 200 units of free power, removal of smart meters and 12 free gas cylinders a year to consumers are irritating people day after day, week after week and now month after month. The fulfilment of the poll promise on increase in ration quota should not have taken more than a fortnight for the Government and same is true for the promise of200 units of free power and removal of smart meters. Forget about removal of smart meters a promise made by Chief Minister himself at the election rallies during campaigning for assembly elections last year the Government now does not even take a final call on 200 units of free power for consumers of BPL (Below The Poverty Line) category and is now asking people to wait for it till April this year. Similarly the Minister For Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA) had promised to announce 12 gas cylinders a year and increase in ration quotas as new year gifts but surprisingly this promise also now stands extended till the budget session of the assembly commencing shortly.

Chief Minister is promising protection of jobs and lands but given the fact that recruitments are now connected to recommendations of the cabinet sub-committee constituted on reviewing the reservation policy the promise of recruitments is also set to hit some more roadblocks.
