Baramulla : District Magistrate Baramulla, Minga Sherpa, chaired the 16th meeting of the District Level Narco Coordination Centre (NCORD) Committee meeting , where a comprehensive review of the ongoing efforts to combat drug abuse and trafficking was conducted.
The meeting focused on strengthening inter-departmental coordination and planning further strategies to mitigate the narcotic challenge in Baramulla, ensuring a safer environment for the youth.
Principal GMC Baramulla, Prof.{Dr.) Majid Jehangir, Additional Deputy Commissioner Sopore SA.Raina, Additional Superintendent Police Baramulla, Syed Yasir Qadri, Assistant Commissioner Revenue, Arshad Ahmad Khan, Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Pattan Gulmarg,Uri ,Chief Medical Officer, Chief Education Officer, Chief Agriculture Officer and other concerned officers were attended the meeting.
The DM emphasized the importance of a unified approach to combat the growing drug menace and ensure a safer, drug-free environment for youth. “Our combined efforts are key to safeguarding the future of our youth from the adverse impact of narcotics,” said the DM.
During the meeting, the Principal of Government Medical College (GMC) Baramulla, Majid Jahangir briefed the DM on the achievements of the Nasha Mukt Bharat (Drug-Free India) initiative. In the first batch, 25 individuals were trained as master trainers, who are now responsible for training others, significantly expanding the reach of the drug awareness and de-addiction campaign.
In addition to anti-drug efforts, the DM addressed initiatives for youth engagement. He directed the Chief Education Officer (CEO) and Youth Services Department to organize an annual sports schedule for the youth in the district.
The DM emphasized that these sports events would focus on promoting physical fitness, teamwork, and providing positive alternatives for young people. The annual sports schedule will offer a variety of competitions and activities, ensuring year-round engagement and opportunities for youth to develop their skills.
The DM also tasked the Principal of Degree College Baramulla with organizing an inter-district college quiz competition to foster academic competition and intellectual engagement among students across Baramulla and neighboring districts. “Academic activities like this quiz competition are essential in developing critical thinking and academic excellence,” said the DM.
Furthermore, the DM instructed the Programme Officer to create an animated video aimed at educating children at Anganwadi Centres (AWC) about the dangers of drug abuse. The video will be a fun, interactive tool to raise awareness among younger audiences.
In his closing remarks, the DM also directed the concerned departments to ensure the rehabilitation of victims of drug abuse. He emphasized the need for providing proper counseling, treatment, and support services to help individuals recover and reintegrate into society.
