Srinagar : The Jammu and Kashmir Students Association (JKSA) on Monday urged Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Omar Abdullah, to take immediate steps for the revival of the Parvaaz Scheme. Association said that the Parvaaz Scheme was a transformative initiative for the youth of the Union Territory.

It said that, Launched in 2020, the scheme provided free coaching to students for prestigious competitive examinations such as IAS/KAS and JEE/NEET, empowering young minds from marginalized communities. However, its abrupt suspension has left countless aspirants disillusioned, depriving them of opportunities for growth and excellence.

Ummar Jamal, National President of the Association, said that, “The Parvaaz Scheme was more than just a government policy; it was a lifeline for underprivileged students who dared to dream of a better future. Its suspension has severely undermined their aspirations. Reviving the scheme is not just important—it is a necessity.”

Jamal emphasized the critical role of the Parvaaz Scheme in addressing disparities in access to quality education, particularly for students from rural and economically disadvantaged backgrounds. He added that the scheme had leveled the playing field, enabling countless young minds to compete with their more privileged peers in national-level examinations.

“The revival of the Parvaaz Scheme is crucial because our youth are the torchbearers of tomorrow. It is our collective responsibility to ensure they have every opportunity to shine,” Jamal added.

The National Spokesperson of the Association, Farhat Riyaz, remarked that, “The discontinuation of the Parvaaz Scheme has created a void that cannot be ignored. Education is the most powerful tool for transforming lives, yet this tool has been taken away from those who need it the most. We strongly urge the government to reinstate this scheme.”

With Jammu and Kashmir grappling with one of the highest unemployment rates in the country, the Association stressed the urgent need to invest in initiatives like the Parvaaz Scheme to address systemic issues. The scheme not only provided educational opportunities but also nurtured a generation of aspirants equipped to secure positions in competitive fields, thereby reducing unemployment and fostering socioeconomic growth.

The association urged the Chief Minister to prioritize the reinstatement of the Parvaaz Scheme and implement it with renewed vigor. They called for a clear framework to ensure the scheme reaches all deserving candidates, particularly those from rural and economically weaker sections.
