Jammu: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha chaired the 88th meeting of the University Council of the University of Jammu at Raj Bhavan, on Monday.
The meeting was attended by Ms Sakina Ittoo, Minister for Higher Education; Sh Shantmanu, Additional Chief Secretary, Higher Education Department; Dr Mandeep K. Bhandari, Principal Secretary to Lt Governor; Prof. Umesh Rai, Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu; Prof. Alok Kumar Rai, Vice Chancellor, Lucknow University; Prof. K.S Chandrasekhar, Vice Chancellor, Cluster University Jammu; Prof. AK Kaul, former Professor, Department of Sociology, BHU Varanasi; Dr Neeraj Sharma, Registrar, Jammu University and other members of the council.
Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary, Secretary, Planning, Monitoring and Development Department; Prof. Nilofer Khan, Vice Chancellor, Kashmir University and Prof. Mohd Mohin, Vice Chancellor Cluster University Srinagar joined through virtual mode.
The University Council deliberated on various matters of academic and administrative importance to further improve the overall functioning of the university.
The meeting accorded in-principle approval to various agenda items and proposals including adoption and inclusion of several provisions as per the guidelines and notifications of UGC and National Education Policy 2020.
The Lieutenant Governor directed the University for regular revision of curriculum and courses, besides introducing new courses in line with the emerging trends and needs of the modern-day world. The University should also give dedicated focus to promotion of local languages and culture of the region, he said.
He further asked the University to start a drive for faculty strengthening, filling up the vacant Teaching / Non-Teaching posts and resolving the promotion related matters under Career Advancement Scheme in fast-track mode.
The Lieutenant Governor also passed necessary directions to the university for streamlining the e-office and timely completion of ongoing projects.
On the occasion, members of the Council congratulated the Vice Chancellor and faculty members and staff of University of Jammu for attaining the coveted A++ Grade from NAAC with an exceptional CGPA score of 3.72. and becoming the only A++ University in J&K.
The University Council also discussed the success of Design Your Own Degree under-graduate programme.
Discussions were also held on streamlining the process of direct recruitments for various posts, onboarding of sports experts for effective implementation of Sports Policy of the University, Credit framework for Design Your Degree programme etc.
Prof. Umesh Rai, Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu presented a detailed report highlighting University’s thrust on research, skill development, Internships and Start Ups, experiential learning through major projects; path-breaking initiatives of the University including digital and environment friendly initiatives, and promoting trans-disciplinary and holistic Education.
The chair was also briefed on the action taken on the directions passed during the previous meeting.
