IMFA, JU organizes third monthly Baithak

Jammu : The Institute of Music & Fine Arts (IMFA), University of Jammu, organized its third monthly Baithak, reviving a cherished tradition aimed at promoting Indian classical performing arts and nurturing young talent. This initiative provides a unique platform for students to showcase their skills, overcome stage fear, and gain invaluable performance experience.
A series of captivating performances were presented by students from various disciplines. Anmol Kumar (3rd Semester) rendered Raag Durga, accompanied by Sh. Prabhat Bali on Tabla. Naresh Kumar Malgotra and Dheeraj Kalotra (3rd Year) performed Raag Des, supported by Mohit Kumar on Tabla. Ajay Kumar (3rd Year) delivered an energetic Tabla solo, with Aryan Verma on Harmonium. Sobia Kouser presented a melodious violin recital, accompanied by Sh. Prabhat Bali on Tabla.Ajay Agarwal (3rd Year) gave a graceful Kathak performance, supported by Sonia Devi and Manu Saini on Padant, Sh. Vijay Kumar on Tabla, and Rajkumar Sharma on Harmonium.
The event proceedings were expertly anchored by Sh. Rajkumar Sharma.
Adding an academic dimension to the program, Rudra Sharma from the Vocal Department presented a scholarly paper titled ‘Impact of Music Therapy on Human Life,’ highlighting the therapeutic role of music in improving overall well-being.
Addressing the gathering, Prof. Sohaib Malik, Principal, IMFA, praised the remarkable progress witnessed in the Baithak series. He emphasized that such platforms are essential for building students’ confidence and fostering their artistic growth.
Renowned singer Prof. Anupama Sharma and senior radio broadcaster Madhavi Sharma graced the event as special guests. Both applauded the revival of this age-old tradition and commended Dr. Priya Dutta, Head of the Performing Arts Department, for her dedication in promoting art and providing young artists with a stage to shine. The program concluded with the presentation of participation certificates to all performers by the distinguished guests.
