7 drug peddlers arrested; contraband substances recovered: Police

Srinagar : Police on Wednesday said that it has arrested seven drug peddlers in Awantipora, Baramulla, Kulgam & Kupwara and recovered contraband substance from their possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that a police party of Police Post Reshipora headed by Incharge Police Post Reshipora under the supervision of SDPO Awantipora at a checkpoint at Dogripora intercepted a vehicle ECO bearing registration no JK05M-4630 with two suspects identified as Arif Ahmad S/o Sonaullah War and Naseer Ahmad War S/o MohdMaqbool War both resident of WarporaSopore on board. Stating that during search, 1.680 Kgms of grinded cannabis was recovered from the possession of the said accused, Police in its statement further said that since last five days, six drugs peddlers including a lady drug peddler were arrested, adding therein that two drug peddlers were booked under PIT NDPS and one vehicle identified during investigation as illegal acquired property was seized by Police District Awantipora.
Police in its statement further said that in Baramulla also, a police party from Police Station Pattan, led by SHO Police Station Pattan, at a checkpoint established near Kalsari Pattan intercepted a bike (two-wheeler) without registration no ridden by three persons identified as Mushtaq Ahmad BhatS/o Gh Mohammad R/o Pethgam Wagoora, Tahir Ahmad Bhat S/o Gh Ahmad R/o Warpora Tangmarg and Nisar Ahmad GanieS/o GhRasoolR/o Durhama Wagoora on board, adding therein that during search, 90 grams of contraband Charas was recovered from the possession of the said accused.
Stating that that in a similar action in Kulgam also, a police party of Police Station Yaripora at a checkpoint established at Yaripora intercepted a vehicle (Auto) bearing registration no JK18D-4779 driven by Sajad Ahmad Khar S/o Mohd Abdullah Khar R/o Kharpora and during search, 900 grams of Cannabis Powder were recovered from the possession of the said accused, Police in its statement further said that in Kupwara also, a Police party of Police Station Kralpora at a checkpoint established at Guzriyal Reshigund Crossing, intercepted a suspect identified as Imtiyaz Ahmad Khan S/o Lal Khan R/o Lone Harri Tangwari and during search, recovered20.09 grams of a charas-like substance from his possession.
Police in its statement further said that all the accused were arrested besides which vehicles used in commission of crime were also seized , adding therein that cases under relevant sections of law were also registered at respective police stations besides initiating further investigations.
In the concluding para of its above quoted statement Police appealed people to cooperate with it in curbing the menace of drugs from the society, reiterating therein its commitment to act tough against the criminals as per law.
