Srinagar : Police on Tuesday said that it has detained a drug peddler under PIT NDPS Act in Handwara.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said
that it has detained a drug peddler namely Manzoor Ahmad Shah S/o Saif-Ud-Deen Shah R/o Gund Moomin a key member of a drug trafficking syndicate actively involved in destroying the lives of youth by pushing them towards substance abuse. Stating that the said drug peddler was involved in multiple criminal cases including case FIR Nos 266/2020 under Section 8/20 NDPS Act of Police Statioin Kupwara and 15/2024 under Sections 8/20, 29 NDPS Act PS Vilgam which highlights his persistent engagement in illicit activities, Police in its statement further said that despite actions, the accused continued his illegal activities, prompting the initiation of detention proceedings under PIT NDPS Act and finally, a detention warrant under Section 3 of the PIT NDPS Act was received and executed following which said accused was brought to the police station for further action.
In the concluding para of its above quoted statement said that it remains committed to eradicate drug abuse and trafficking in the region and warned that strict action will continue against those involved in such activities to secure future of the youth and ensure a drug-free society.
