DLSA Srinagar, B’gam observe ‘World Human Rights Day’ at Central Jail Srinagar

Srinagar |Dec, 10: To raise awareness among jail inmates about human rights and the importance of legal aid in safeguarding these rights, the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Srinagar, in collaboration with DLSA Budgam, under the aegis of the J&K Legal Services Authority, observed ‘World Human Rights Day’ at Central Jail Srinagar on Tuesday.
The programme was held under the guidance of Jaffer Hussain Beg, Chairman DLSA/Principal District & Sessions Judge Srinagar and Om Prakash Baghat, Chairman DLSA Budgam/Pr. District & Sessions Judge Budgam and under the supervision of Nusrat Ali Hakak, Sub-Judge/Secretary of DLSA Srinagar.
The event was graced by presence of Nusrat Ali Hakak, Secretary DLSA Srinagar/Budgam; Shahbaz Hussain Bhat, DySP Central Jail Srinagar, along with officials of Central Jail Srinagar, Officials & Legal Aid Defence Counsels of DLSA Srinagar, and para-legal volunteers of DLSA Budgam.
Speaking on the occasion, Nusrat Ali Hakak emphasized the significance of World Human Rights Day in promoting dignity, equality and justice. She encouraged inmates to understand and exercise their rights within the framework of law and highlighted the vital role of the legal system in protecting those rights.
Shahbaz Hussain Bhat, DySP, Central Jail emphasized the jail inmates about the significance of human rights and their universal application, even within correctional facilities. He spoke about the importance of upholding dignity, ensuring fairness, and recognizing the fundamental rights of every individual, regardless of their circumstances.
Tasneem Kausar, Deputy Chief Legal Aid Defence Counsel, and Urba Rashid, Assistant Legal Aid Defence Counsel, served as resource persons during the event. They conducted informative sessions to educate the inmates on various aspects of human rights, the importance of legal aid, and the mechanisms available to address grievances effectively.
The event underscored the commitment of the DLSA to ensuring access to justice for all, including those in incarceration.
