Institute of Mountain Environment, Bhaderwah Campus Hosts Lecture on Importance of Remote Sensing, GIS & Population Geography

Bhaderwah : Institute of Mountain Environment, Bhaderwah Campus, University of Jammu, Hosts Lecture on the Importance of Remote Sensing, GIS, and Population Geography
The event was organised under the guidance of the Rector Bhaderwah Campus, Prof. J P Singh Joorel. Special lecture was delivered by Prof. Gaurav Kalotra from the Department of Geography, Punjab University. The lecture emphasized the importance of Remote Sensing and GIS in geographical studies and the expanding scope of Population Geography, offering invaluable insights into modern research methodologies and applications in these fields.
The program commenced with an introductory address by Dr. Shayan Javeed, In-charge Head of the Department of Economics, who welcomed Prof. Kalotra and introduced him to the audience. This was followed by a welcome address by Dr. Neeraj Sharma, In-charge Head of the Department of Environmental Sciences, who highlighted the achievements of Bhaderwah Campus and its various departments.
Prof. Gaurav Kalotra delivered a thought-provoking lecture, sharing his expertise with faculty members, scholars, and students. He discussed the growing significance of Geography, particularly Population Geography, and the transformative role of Remote Sensing and GIS technologies in advancing research methodologies. He also emphasized the potential of these technologies in shaping the future of geographical studies. As a gesture of appreciation, Dr. Chhering Tandup, In-charge Head of the Department of Geography, presented a bouquet to Prof. Kalotra. Bouquets were also presented by Dr. Neeraj Sharma to Dr. Ajaya Kumar, and by Mrs. Anshu, a research scholar from the Department of Geography, Bhaderwah Campus, to Mr. Deepak, a research scholar from Punjab University.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Chhering Tandup, expressing gratitude to Prof. Kalotra and all the participants for their valuable contributions to the event’s success. The lecture was attended by faculty members, including Ramana Devi, Anghat Singh, and Intikhab Khan Muneer from the Department of Geography, as well as Dr. Dinesh and Vandana Sharma from the Department of Environmental Sciences. Guest lecturers and research scholars from Bhaderwah Campus and Punjab University also participated, including Anshu, Ajaz Ansari, Neetika Khullar, Asma Sharma, Asha Sohil, and Deepak Lohai. Postgraduate students from the Department of Geography, including Sahiba, Deepti Rakwal, Nazia Bano, Naira, and Saima Tabassum, actively participated in the event.
