GDC Vijaypur commences series of activities on World AIDS Day

Samba : Red Ribbon Club of Government Degree College Vijaypur commenced a series of activities on World AIDS Day 2024 in collaboration with the J&K AIDS Control Society (JKACS), H&ME Department. The event was organised under the guidance of Principal Dr. Vandana Verma.
Prof. Poonam Kundan (Convener, Red Ribbon Club) highlighted the importance of World AIDS Day 2024 and its theme: “Take the Right Path: My Health, My Right!” She further emphasizes on fundamental human right to access healthcare and support, focusing on empowering individuals to make choices that safeguard their health, particularly in the context of preventing and managing HIV/AIDS.
Students of the college actively participated in the Quiz competition and poster making competition with great enthusiasm and zeal under the theme “Take the right path: My health, my right!”.
As many as 20 students participated in the quiz and poster making competition. Participants presented different views in their posters spreading awareness about myths and misconceptions about HIV/AIDS.
In the Quiz competition, Team A comprising of Ankush Kumari and Aryan Singh , both of Semester – I emerged as a winner and in the poster making competition, first position was achieved by Shruti Mehra of B.Com Semester- I, Second position was attained by Ankush Kumari of B.A. Semester-I and third position was obtained by Manpreet Kour of B.Com. Semester I. Competitions were judged by Prof. Anoop Bhagat (HOD Sociology), Prof. Ritu Bhagat (HOD Education) and Dr. Naseem Choudhary (HOD English).
The event was coordinated by Prof. Poonam Kundan, Dr. Naseem Choudhary and Prof. Meetu Sharma and co-coordinated by Dr. Priyanka Ganjoo, Prof. Pooja Devi, Dr. Anjana Raina, Prof. Sana Farooq and Dr. Sandeepa Kotwal. Refreshments were distributed among all participants.
The Red Ribbon Club of GDC Vijaypur’s involvement highlights the importance of student engagement and community outreach in tackling critical public health issues like HIV/AIDS. Through this initiative, the college aims to play an active role in promoting a well-informed and compassionate society.
