Ganderbal : The two-day National Conference on “Emerging Issues and Trends in Commerce Education” organized by the Department of Commerce, School of Business Studies, Central University of Kashmir (CUKashmir), concluded at the varsity’s Tulmulla Campus on Thursday.
Prof. A Ravinder Nath, Vice-Chancellor, Professor Department of Commerce, Delhi School of Economics, University of Delhi, Prof. Ajay Kumar Singh, Prof. Khursheed Ali, former Dean Academic Affairs, University of Kashmir, Prof. Shahid Rasool, Dean Academic Affairs, Prof. Fayaz Ahmad Nikka, Dean School of Business Studies, Dr. Mehraj ud Din Shah, Head Deptt of Commerce and Conference Director, faculty members, research scholar and students were present.
Speaking on the occasion, Vice-Chancellor, Prof. A Ravinder Nath, asked the scholars and students to focus their research on the problems and issues confronted by the local population. “The outcome of the research should necessarily alleviate and mitigate the sufferings of the people,” Prof. A Ravinder Nath said. He also advocated the use of technology in finding solutions to the problems faced by the people. “In a rapidly evolving digital age, being tech-savvy has become a crucial necessity to bridge societal gaps and address grassroots challenges effectively,” he added.
In his address, Chief Guest, Prof. Ajay Kumar Singh, who made a detailed presentation on the conference theme said, the field of Commerce education is continually evolving in response to the dynamic shifts in technology, global markets, and societal expectations. Prof. Kumar said the emerging trends in commerce education includes: integration of technology in teaching, focus on skills based education, emphasis on entrepreneurship and startup incubation, global exposure through exchange programmes and online courses and personalised learning through adaptive learning technologies. He said that India’s future of work involves a dynamic interplay of technology, demographics, and evolving workplace models. “Adapting to change and investing in skills will be crucial for individuals and organisations alike,” he added.
Addressing the participants, Prof. Khursheed Ali, said Commerce education needs a regular curriculum review to include contemporary topics such as fintech, global markets, and digital entrepreneurship. “Collaboration with industry professionals can help ensure relevance.” “Commerce education emphasizes leadership and teamwork. Workshops, role-plays, and interactive sessions have to be integrated into the curriculum to develop these skills,” he added.
Prof. Fayaz Ahmad Nikka, in his speech, said, the conference brought together scholars, academicians, and practitioners to deliberate on the evolving landscape of commerce education in India. He also highlighted the importance of aligning commerce education with industry needs and technological advancements. He emphasized the role of academic institutions in fostering innovation and equipping students with skills for the modern economy.
Dr. Mehraj ud Din Shah, Head Deptt of Commerce and Conference Director, in his address, said that Commerce education prioritizes inclusivity and accessibility, ensuring that students from diverse backgrounds can benefit from modern learning opportunities. He also presented the Conference report and said the event featured engaging panel discussions showcasing diverse perspectives and innovative solutions to contemporary challenges in commerce education.
