Jammu : The Centre for Distance and Online Education (CDOE), University of Jammu, in collaboration with the Centre for Women’s Studies, organized a Guest Lecture to mark the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. The lecture, titled “From Awareness to Action: Combating Violence against Women”, addressed the pressing issue of violence against women, which remains a significant human rights violation and public health challenge.
The session emphasized the grave consequences of violence against women on their lives, health, and overall well-being. It explored the root causes, including gender inequality, power imbalances, poverty, conflict, and climate change, while also advocating for accountability, increased support for women’s rights movements, and the transformation of harmful societal beliefs.
The event was held under the guidance of Prof. Pankaj Kumar Srivastava, Director, CDOE, University of Jammu. Dr. NehaVij, event coordinator, introduced and welcomed the Guest Speaker, Prof. SavitaNayyar, Director, Centre for Women’s Studies, JU.
Prof. Nayyar shared her expertise on the various dimensions of violence against women and highlighted the resilience of women in combating such challenges. She also outlined strategies and institutional measures essential for eradicating violence against women, underscoring the role of collective action and awareness in achieving this goal.
The session concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. SaranjitKaur, Lecturer, Centre for Women’s Studies. As a gesture of gratitude, Prof. PankajSrivastava presented a token of appreciation to Prof. Nayyar. Prof. AnupamaVohra from CDOE and Ms. KunzangAngmo from CWS were also present.
