Srinagar : Police on Saturday said that it has arrested six drug peddlers in Sopore, Kupwara and Baramulla besides recovering contraband substances from their possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said, in Sopore, a police party headed by In-charge Police Post Fruit Mandi under the supervision of SDPO Sopore Sarfaraz Bashir and SHO Police Station Sopore at a checkpoint established near Fruit Mandi Sopore apprehended three suspects identified as Mohsin Manzoor Gojree S/o Manzoor Ahmad Gojree R/o Noorbagh Sopore Imtiyaz Ahmad Najar S/o Ghulam ud Din Najar R/o Nowpora Kalan Sopore and Ali Mohammad Lara S/o Mohammad Amin Lara R/o New Colony Sopore, adding therein that during search, 20 grams of contraband brown sugar like substance was recovered from their possession.
Stating that in Kupwara also, a police party of Police Post Khurhama at a checkpoint established at T-Chowk Kuligam intercepted a suspect identified as Aijaz Ahmad Khan S/o Gh Hassan R/o Dudi Dapal A/P Gagal Lolab , Police in its statement further said that during search, 72 grams of charas-like substance wrapped in corn husk was recovered from the possession of the said accused.
Police in its statement further said that similarly in Baramulla, a police party headed by SHO Police Station Uri at a checkpoint established at Bandi Crossing, intercepted a suspect identified as Faizal Ahmad Khan S/o Reyaz Ahmad R/o Paranpeelan and during search recoveredd 30 grams of charas and 1.5 Kgs of cannabis powder like substances from his possession.
Stating further that a police party headed by SHO Police Station Baramulla at a checkpoint established at Veerwan Baramulla, intercepted a suspect identified as Farooq Ahmad Lone S/o Ali Mohd R/o Heewan Sheeri and during search recovered 50 grams of charas like contraband substance from his possession, Police in its statement said that all the said accused have been arrested and shifted to respective police stations where they remain in custody, adding therein that cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations and investigation have been initiated.
In the concluding para of its above quoted statement police appealed people to cooperate with it in curbing the menace of drugs from the society, reiterating therein its commitment to to act tough against the criminals as per the law.
