G’bal: The Kijpara bridge in Ganderbal district, central Kashmir, has encountered technical issues, bringing traffic to a standstill for several hours. The traffic was restored one way from each side and police party has been deputed at the spot.
The 122RCC of beacon has started work under the bridge to make a temporary support embankment/pillars till the permanent measures are taken. The bridge serves as the sole connectivity link between Srinagar and Leh-Ladakh Union Territory, holding immense strategic importance for defense.
Constructed 20 years ago by Beacon authorities, the bridge has developed snags, prompting locals to demand a thorough inquiry. Concerns have been raised that the issue may be due to technical faults or damage caused by vehicles. The bridge’s significance cannot be overstated, as it facilitates the transportation of heavy machinery and materials for two critical projects, Zmorh tunnel and Zojilla tunnel. These projects are vital for regional development and national security.
