Jammu : Police on Friday said that it has arrested three drug peddlers in Srinagar and also recovered psychotropic substances, cash and drone from their possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that a Police party of Police Station Safakadal at a checkpoint established in Safakadal, intercepted three suspects identified as Ajaz Ahmad Ganie S/o Manzoor Ahmad R/o Athwajan, Srinagar, Owais Ahmad Gojree S/o Bashir Ahmad Gojree R/o Braripora, Safakadal and Mir Roman S/o Mir Mohammad Hashim R/o Ali Masjid, Eidgah riding a motorcycle (Pulsar) bearing registration number JK01AF-0207, adding therein that during search, 140 bottles of Codeine Phosphate concealed in a box, cash amounting to ₹38,530 (believed to be proceeds of narcotics), 1 drone and 3 mobile phones have been recovered from their possession.
Stating that cases under FIR No. 136/2024 under relevant sections of law were registered at Police Station Safakadal besides initiating investigation, Police in its statement further said “during the preliminary investigation, it was learnt that these drug peddlers were using drones to monitor the movement of consumers (buyers), ensuring that buyers are not accompanied by Police, and also to track the movement of Police within their area of operation to avoid potential traps by the Police”.
In the concluding para of its above quoted statement Police said reiterated its commitment to ensure a drug-free and safe environment for all citizens and appealed people to cooperate with it in curbing the menace of drugs from the society.
