Mission Shakti Jammu hosts awareness sessions to empower women, promote gender equality

Jammu : Jammu-Mission Shakti SANKALP HEW under the aegis of Social Welfare Department organized empowering awareness sessions in Village Jabah, Block Bishnah and at PLP High School Pandoria, Block Arnia to engage with students, school staff, and local women. The initiative was designed to inform the community about the government schemes meant for uplifting and supporting women, with a broader mission of fostering gender equality and strengthening the role of women in society.
The Mission Shakti’s team covered an array of government programs that cater specifically to women’s welfare, economic empowerment, safety, and security.
The Key schemes highlighted included Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY) envisaging Providing financial support to pregnant and lactating women to improve health and nutrition; State Marriage Assistance Scheme (SMAS) provisioning Financial assistance to underprivileged women to support marriage-related expenses; Janani Suraksha Yojana (JSY), s scheme to encourage safe motherhood through institutional deliveries among poor pregnant women; Widow and Old Age Pension Schemes, ensuring financial aid for widows and the elderly, focusing on social security for vulnerable groups.
The sessions also introduced women to vocational and entrepreneurship programs such as Skill Development Courses at ITIs and Polytechnics to enhance women employability; Business Startup Schemes like the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP), Tejaswini, Mumkin, SC/ST Corporation, and the Women Development Corporation (WDC), offering women the resources and guidance to start their own and many other govt initiatives.
Beyond these specific schemes, Mission Shakti emphasized the critical role of women in nation-building and highlighted the importance of the girl child in Indian society. Through the BBBP scheme, this initiative underlines the message that educating and empowering women is central to achieving a more just and prosperous nation.
