Srinagar : Police on Saturday said that it has arrested a bootlegger and seized illicit liquor from his possession in Shopian.
in a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said a Police party of Police Station Shopian, during a routine patrolling at Batapora Shopian, intercepted a suspect identified as Bhashkar Shagosh Chavhan S/o Shagosh Chavhan R/o Ramaji Nagar Sonala Road Borgaon District Akola Maharashtra A/P Tenant at Batpora Chowk Shopian, adding therein that as he seen carrying a bag and tried to flee after noticing police party but was apprehended tactfully and during search, 26 bottles of illicit liquor were found in the bag.
Stating that the said accused been arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody, Police in its statement further said that a case under FIR No. 152/2024 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Shopian besides initiating investigation.
In the concluding para of its above quoted statement police appealed people to come forward with any information related to drug or liquor Trafficking in their area, reiterating therein that cooperation of people is vital for fight against the social evils.
