Moscow: Russia on Tuesday said that it’s military bases would remain in Syria after the anti-terrorist operation was over, although the contingents of Ground and Aerospace Forces were to be reduced.
“There is an agreement that Russian military bases will remain in Syria. This is precisely what President Bashar al-Assad meant when he was speaking of guarantees of non-interference and stability in the country,” First Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council (Upper House) Security and Defence Committee Franz Klintsevich told Russian news agencies.
Klintsevich was commenting on a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in Sochi held on Monday. Putin has invited al-Assad to discuss the planned Syrian National Dialogue Congress, ahead of a meeting with the presidents of Turkey and Iran set for Wednesday.
