Srinagar : The Chief Spokesperson and MLA Zadibal Tanvir Sadiq assured on Monday that the government led by Omar Abdullah will prioritize the protection of the vital interests of those involved in the handicrafts sector.
According to a statement issued from party headquarters here he visited the Indian Institute of Carpet Technology at Lal Bazar to gain firsthand insights into the institute’s initiatives for the stakeholders of the Kashmir Hand-knotted Carpet Industry. The main objective of the Institute is to provide essential technical support to the Carpet Industry of Jammu & Kashmir.
He was impressed by the remarkable skill of the artisans and the strides in GI tagging. Interacting with the office bearers of the institute, he said, “Srinagar is a hub of artistry—from paper-mâché to pashmina—and it’s essential to support and preserve these legacies. I will discuss with Hon. CM & Hon. Industries Minister to boost this sector, especially in Zadibal, ensuring better opportunities for our artisans.”
In the meantime he also made a whirlwind tour of the constituency where he made brief stops at the Tibetan colony and DD Bagh in Hawal. The locals took the opportunity to bring their concerns to Tanvir’s attention, who listened attentively and promptly directed officials to address the issues.
