KU-Mathematics Deptt organized awareness prog for students of distt B’pora on importance of Mathematics

Srinagar : The Department of Mathematics, University of Kashmir Kashmir, Srinagar in collaboration with Kashmir Mathematical Society (KMS) & Chief Education Office, Bandipora, organized Awareness-cum-outreach Programme to the High school students of district Bandipora.
The aim of the programme was to acquaint the students about the importance of Mathematics and its relevance in the present digital era. The programme was held at Girls High School Plan, Bandipora. The program aimed to develop the interest of students towards the essence of mathematics at School level, which in turn can improve the enrolment of students in mathematics at Higher Education. It is pertinent to mention here that, Kashmir region has drastic decline of student’s enrolment in
Mathematics after qualifying 10 th class due to various reasons. To overcome this challenge, this program was organized to create interest among students towards mathematics. Speaking on the occasion Chief
Education Officer Bandipora Kishore Kumar welcomed the guests and congratulated Dept. of Mathematics and KMS for organizing such awareness programme for the welfare of the Students as well
as society in general.
Prof. M.A. Khanday, HOD Mathematics-KU & Convener of the programme, delivered a keynote lecture on the Effective pedagogy in mathematics and its applications. He deliberated on importance of
Mathematics in real life situation and also discussed the role of teachers and parents in guiding the students. He further emphasized that teachers need to change strategy to develop interest among the students by making their lectures relevant to the topic and establish student centric classroom
environment. Teachers need to update themselves by identifying the relevant pedagogy to motivate and inspire students about the significance of the subject, Khanday added. Prof. Bilal Ahmad, HOD SKUAST
Wadura in his speech gave discussed the role of data and its applications in real life using mathematical tools. Dr. Mohammad Maroof Shah, Dy Director, Sheep Husbandry Badgam, motivated students, why to
become a mathematician, he encouraged students to choose mathematics for their overall growth and wisdom to solve number problems of regional and global level. Dr. H. R. Bhapkar, HOD Mathematics CUK discussed some memory based arithmetic problems with the students. Prof. Wali Mohammad Shah, Former HOD Mathematics CUK, in his speech congratulate Department of Mathematics University of Kashmir and other collaborators for organizing this wonderful program, he said that such awareness programme will definitely inspire students to choose Mathematics as their future goal. More than 100 Students from various schools under the guidance of their escort teachers from the district presented their mathematical models in front of experts and were later appreciated by certificates. The Deputy CEO, Principal GHSS Plan Bandipora, staff from CEO, members of KMS and other
guests have attended the programme. Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Nisar Ul Kareem, Sr. Lecturer Mathematics appreciated the efforts of the
organizers and highlighted some important aspects of mathematics. Aarsalan Habib and Mr. Mushtaq Ahmad Malik from the CEO Office conducted the proceedings and vote of thanks on the occasion.
