Baramulla : A mega SVEEP (Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation) program was organized on Saturday in Sopore.
The event, organised under the supervision of the Additional Deputy Commissioner Sopore, Shabir Ahmad Raina, who also serves as the Returning Officer for the 07-Sopore Assembly Constituency, witnessed the enthusiastic participation of over 11,000 individuals, including a large number of students.
To capture public attention, ADC Sopore, and SP Sopore actively participated in a Tanga ride from the River edge to Government Degree College Sopore. This symbolic gesture was intended to engage directly with the public and spread the message of the importance of voting on election day, October 1, 2024.
The program featured various activities aimed at encouraging voter participation and raising electoral awareness among the public. A major highlight was a rally that commenced from MET School and concluded at Subhana Stadium, covering a distance of approximately 2 kilometers on foot.
A tug-of-war competition was held, followed by a plantation drive at MET School and the Municipal Park near the river edge, where 100 saplings were planted to promote environmental consciousness.
The event also included Hooper of the Municipal Committee Sopore and e-rickshaw rallies from MET School to the Municipal Committee office, engaging the local community in a vibrant display.
A traditional Tanga rally was held from the River edge to Degree College Sopore, drawing significant public interest. Additionally, a special rally for physically challenged individuals on scooters was organized, highlighting the spirit of inclusivity.
A vehicle rally from the ADC office to Bothengoo added to the day’s momentum, and a Shikara rally at Wular Lake attracted a large crowd, symbolizing the unique cultural heritage of the region.
Speakers at the event included Cricketer Amir Hassan, who recently represented India in a physically challenged match in England, the President of the Traders Association, a state awardee school teacher, the Principal of Higher Secondary School Sopore, and ADC Sopore. They all urged the public to participate enthusiastically in the upcoming elections on October 1, 2024, to ensure maximum voter turnout.
The event marked a robust effort to engage the community, emphasizing the power of each vote and the significance of active civic participation in the democratic process.
