Doda : Deputy Commissioner (DC), Doda Harvinder Singh chaired the 4th District Road Safety Committee (DRSC) meeting here on Saturday. The meeting primarily focused on improving traffic management across the district as well as enhance road safety measures.
The meeting, among others, was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioners of Doda and Bhaderwah, Chief Medical Officer, Chief Education Officer, ARTO, Divisional Forest Officer, Executive Engineers from various divisions and representatives from NHIDCL, PMGSY, and SDRF.
During the meeting, the DSRC discussed crucial aspects of road safety and outlined a roadmap for implementing improved measures. Other issues like installation of essential road safety infrastructure, crash barriers on sharp curves, speed breakers in accident-prone areas, and improved road signage were also deliberated during the meeting.
Addressing the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner emphasized on the importance of educational campaigns for creating road safety awareness among local communities. He directed the Municipal authorities to remove unnecessary obstacles within the town to reduce traffic congestion.
He urged upon all concerned departments to collaborate closely with one another in maintaining road safety measures, ensuring regular monitoring of speed limits, road maintenance, and prompt repair of damaged infrastructure.
The Deputy Commissioner also issued specific directions to the officials of NHIDCL, emphasizing the need to cover all sensitive and accident-prone areas with the installation of crash barriers.
He further directed them to avoid dumping of construction materials in vulnerable areas, as it can pose additional risks to road safety.
The Deputy Commissioner also instructed NHIDCL to maintain the stretch from Batote to Thathri, ensuring it remains free of debris and other obstacles, which often contribute to accidents.
