Srinagar: A police Sub Inspector was killed and another injured in an attack by militants in Zakura area on the outskirts of Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir on Friday.
Three militants travelling in a car opened fire on a police team at the Zakura crossing on Srinagar-Ganderbal road, killing sub-inspector Imran Tak and injuring a special police officer (SPO), a police official said.
The official said the police team managed to intercept the car and apprehended one militant, but two others fled from the scene. A hunt has been launched to track down the two militants, he added.
Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti has paid rich tributes to the Sub Inspector of J&K Police, Imran Talk, who was killed Friday at Zakura, Srinagar. Mehbooba Mufti said violence is no means to achieve any goals, rather it tears apart the entire social fabric of the society. The Chief Minister conveyed her sympathies with the bereaved family of slain cop.
Deputy Chief Minister Dr. Nirmal Singh expressed grief over the killing of Sub Inspector Imran Tak, who was killed by the militants in Zakura area of Srinagar district. While condemning the killing of police officer, the Deputy Chief Minister said the sacrifices rendered by valiant police officers would be remembered forever and the perpetrators of the violence would be dealt with sternly. Deputy Chief Minister while expressing sympathies with the bereaved family prayed for peace to the departed soul.
Meanwhile District magistrate Srinagar said that restrictions will be imposed within the territorial jurisdiction of six police stations of Srinagar on Saturday. Complete restrictions will be imposed in areas falling under the jurisdiction of Parimpora, Khanyar, Nowhatta, Safakadal, MR Gunj and Rainawari police stations, he said.
“There will also be partial restrictions within the territorial jurisdiction of Maisuma and Kralkhud police stations,” he said, in a statement. The district magistrate also said that all schools and colleges in Srinagar will remain closed on November 18. The move comes in the wake of killing of a Ghazwatul Hind militant Mugees Ahmad Mir in a shootout in Zakura area of Srinagar. Mir was a resident of Parimpora area of the city.
