Srinagar : Police on Monday said that it arrested five drug peddlers in Anantnag and also seized a substantial quantity of psychotropic/contraband substances from their possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that in a significant operation, a police team from Police Station Mattan during naka at Bumzoo Mattan, intercepted an Innova vehicle bearing registration number JK02DK/9333 with three suspects on board identified as Lateef Ahmad Shah S/o Mohammad Qasim Shah R/o Mattan, Ayaz Ahmad Bhat S/o Mohammad Amin Bhat R/o Seer Hamdan, and Rayees Ahmad Malik S/o Gh Mohammad Malik R/o Sarnal Payeen, Anantnag on board , adding therein that during searching of the vehicle, 11 bottles of Codeine Phosphate, 80 Dolo-T tablets, 70 OMODOL tablets, good quantity of Beer and Alcohol and a cash amount of ₹11,500/- were recovered from the said accused who were arrested on the spot besides which the vehicle used in the commission of crime was also seized.
Police in its statement further said that in a similar action a police team from Police Station Anantnag at a checkpoint established near Wazir Bagh Park, Anantnag intercepted an auto bearing registration no JK01AK-7694 driven by one Riyaz Ahmad Dar S/o Gh Qadir Dar R/o Zadipora which was coming from Bangdar towards Mehandi Kadal. Stating that during the search of the said vehicle a good amount of illicit liquor was recovered, Police in its statement further said that the said accused was arrested besides which the auto used in the commission of crime was also seized.
Police in its statement furthermore said that a Police team from Police Post Sangam during naka checking at Kudangan Marhama apprehended an individual identified as Noor Mohammad Ganie S/o Ab Rahim Ganie R/o Marhama, who was carrying a bag with a significant quantity of alcohol, adding therein that the accused was arrested and the contraband was seized on the spot. Stating that all the accused were arrested and shifted to respective police stations where they remain in custody, Police in its statement further said thatthe cases under relevant sections of law were registered in respective Police Stations besides initiating further investigation.
In the concluding para of its above quoted statement Police appealed people to cooperate with it in curbing the menace of drugs from the society, reiterating therein its commitment to act tough against the criminals as per law.
