G’bal : Pro Bono Club, Department of Law, School of Legal Studies, Central University of Kashmir (CUKashmir), organized a speech competition on the theme “In the age of social media, parenting has become a herculean task” here.
The Dean SLS, Prof. Farooq Ahmad Mir, underscored the importance of such competitions and said, “such events develop confidence among the students.” He said the lingual fluency and balanced expression is a key to success in this world which requires a talent for presenting one’s self and ideas with brevity. He also emphasized the pressing need to make parents aware of the emerging parenting challenges and responsibilities, especially as social media has become a major presence in the lives of children.
Dean Academic Affairs, Prof. Shahid Rasool, praised the performance, participation and holding of the event and re-emphasized the value which speeches and public (intellectual) discourse add to developing minds. He re-stressed upon the profitable nature of eloquence and expression if developed from a young age. DAA encouraged the students to read good authors and newspapers. Dr. Hilal Ahmed Najar highlighted the importance of such events particularly in the context of social media use and abuse. In the competition, Madiha Nisar from R.P. School Nagbal secured 1st rank, Ms Syed Hafsa from Kashmir Harvard secured 2nd rank and Ms Areeb Zahoor from Green Valley Educational Institute secured 3rd rank.
