Jammu: In a crackdown on bovine smuggling, Jammu police have foiled two separate attempts, rescuing 30 bovines and seizing two vehicles in the Sub-division Nagrota.
Under Operation Kamdhenu, a police team from PS Nagrota intercepted a vehicle (JK12A/2805) on NHW near Rajan Bar, rescuing 16 bovines. The driver, Abdul Majid, was arrested on the spot. In another incident, PS Jhajjar Kotli foiled a smuggling attempt at Suketar Naka, rescuing 14 bovines from a vehicle (JK02CQ-1123). The driver fled, leaving the vehicle behind. Two cases have been registered: FIR No. 199/2024 at PS Jhajjar Kotli and FIR No. 233/2024 at Police Station Nagrota, under relevant sections of the BNS Act and Transport of Animals Rule Act 1978. Investigations are ongoing.
