Jammu : In a significant update on the Jammu city’s development progress, authorities revealed that a total of 117 smart city projects have been completed, with 10 additional initiatives, including the high-profile Tawi River Front development, currently in various stages of execution.
This information was given during a meeting chaired by Devansh Yadav, the newly appointed Jammu Municipal Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer of Jammu Smart City Limited (JSCL). JSCL, established in August 2017, was tasked with transforming Jammu into a modern, well-equipped urban center. Among the ongoing projects, the Tawi River Front initiative stands out. Modeled after the Sabarmati River Front in Gujarat, this ambitious project aims to enhance the river’s aesthetic appeal, improve its natural purification processes, and promote sustainable environmental and urban infrastructure.
“The Tawi River Front Project is a flagship endeavor designed to revitalize the Tawi River and its surrounding areas,” Yadav stated during the meeting. “The success of the smart cities mission relies not only on the timely completion of these projects but also on their effectiveness in meeting the real needs and aspirations of our citizens.”
In addition to discussing smart city projects, Yadav conducted an inspection of the Electric-Bus Depot located in Bhagwati Nagar. The current electric bus fleet comprises 95 buses operating across 24 routes, including 18 intracity routes within Jammu and six intercity routes linking surrounding regions. There are also five buses reserved for various purposes.
During his visit, Yadav emphasized the importance of expanding the public transportation system and instructed officials to consider the feasibility of introducing a dedicated electric bus service for women, aiming to enhance accessibility and safety.
The continued progress on these initiatives reflects a concerted effort by the Jammu Municipal Corporation and JSCL to modernize urban infrastructure, improve environmental sustainability, and better serve the residents of Jammu.
