4 drug peddlers arrested in Sopore & Pulwama, contraband/ psychotropic substances recovered: Police

Srinagar : Police on Tuesday said that it has arrested four drug peddlers in Sopore and Pulwama and also recovered contraband/psychotropic substances from their possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarter Srinagar Police said that a police party of Police Post Bus Stand headed by Incharge Police Post Bus Stand under the supervision of SDPO Sopore Sarfaraz Bashir and SHO Police Station Sopore intercepted two suspects identified as Waseem Nabi Wani S/o Ghulam Nabi Wani and Tafazul Islam S/o Naseer Ahmad Parray, both residents of Model Town Sopore near Samad Abad Crossing Shalimar Colony Sopore and during search recovered 209 capsules of SpasmoProxyvon Plus from the possession of the said accused who were arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody. Police in its statement furthermore said that a case under FIR No. 197/2024 under relevant sections of law was registered at Police Station Sopore besides initiating further investigation.
Police in its statement also said that a police party from Police Station Pulwama at a checkpoint established at Gangoo Pulwama intercepted a vehicle (truck) bearing Reg No PB08EQ-8089 driven by Sukhdev Singh S/o Surat Singh R/o Punjab and during search recovered two bags of poppy straw were recovered from his possession. Stating that during the course of investigation on the disclosure of said arrested drug peddler, one more drug peddler identified as Mohd Yousuf Gadda S/o Mohd Shaban Gadda R/o Gangoo was arrested alongwith a bag of poppy straw and the total recovered poppy straw as such weighed about 15 Kilograms was recovered, Police in its statement further said that both the drug peddlers were arrested and shifted to Police Station where they remain in custody, adding therein that a case under FIR no 166/2024 has already been registered and investigation is underway.
In the concluding para of its above quoted statement police appealed people to cooperate with it in curbing the menace of drugs from the society, reiterating therein its commitment to act tough against the criminals as per the law.
