5 drug peddlers arrested in Pulwama, Ang: Police

Srinagar: Police on Saturday said that it has arrested five drug peddlers in Pulwama and Anantnag districts and also recovered contraband substances from their possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that a police party of Police Station Pulwama at a checkpoint established at Washpora Murran Pulwama, arrested a drug peddler along with 2 bottles of contraband like substance and identified him as Manzoor Ahmad Dar S/o GhNabi Dar R/o Washpora Murran , adding therein that a case under FIR No. 135/2024 under relevant sections of law was registered at Police Station Pulwama besides initiating investigations .
Stating that during investigation, following the evidences and the disclosure of arrested drug peddler, raids were conducted at multiple locations that resuled in the recovery of 66 bottles apparently containing codeine phosphate, Police in its statement further said that two more accused were arrested and identified as Bilal Ahmad Mir S/o GhNabi Mir and Liyaqat Nazir S/o Nazir Ahmad Lone, both residents of Murran, adding therein that investigation of the case is in progress.
Police in its statement further said that in a similar action a police party from Police Post Newa at a checkpoint established in Karewa, Nowpora Nagam arrested a drug peddler with 6 bags (76 Kgs) of poppy straw-like substance and a digital weighing machine, found in his vehicle(Ford Figo) bearing registration No. DL10CF 2319, adding therein that the said accused was been identified as Jalal-u-din Sheikh S/o Gh Mohd Sheikh R/o WamporaNagam, District Badgam besides which the vehicle used in the commission of the crime was also seized.
Stating that in yet another similar action in Anantnag district inputs about hoarding of a contraband substance by an accused in his residential house for the purposes of drug peddling were received , Police inits statement further said that a team from Police Station Aishmuqam along with concerned Executive Magistrate raided the place following which approximately 5.3 Kgs of poppy straw was recovered from the residence of Abdul Hafiz Masoodi R/o Iram Colony, Aishmuqam, who was subsequently arrested. Police in its statement furthermore said that the contraband was seized and a case under relevant sections of the NDPS Act stands registered at Police Station Aishmuqam besides initiating investigation.
In the concluding para of its above quoted statement Police appealed people to cooperate with it in curbing the menace of drugs from the society, reiterating therein its commitment to act tough against the criminals as per law.
