Srinagar/Nov,11: Government forces Saturday launched massive search operations in several villages of twin districts of Pulwama and Shopian in south Kashmir. Official sources said on a specific information about the presence of militants, the government forces launched a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in about half-a-dozen villages, including Kanigam and Kasbaiyar in south Kashmir district of Pulwama.
They said Rashtriya Rifles (RR), Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police and CRPF sealed all exit points in these villages early Saturday morning to conduct search operation. The house-to-house operation was going on when the reports last came in. However, so far, no contact has been established with the militants, they said, adding that no one was detained. Sources said government forces also launched CASO at several villages, including Chakoora and Keller Imamsahib, in Shopian district since early Saturday morning.

The militants resorted to indiscriminate firing with automatic weapons near the bus stand causing panic. People in the area ran for safety after hearing the firing. Government forces and police personnel immediately retaliated but the militants managed to escape under the cover of darkness.
