Forest Cricket League takes off at Kupwara

Kupwara : T20 Forest Cricket League- 2024 was inaugurated by the Additional Deputy Commissioner Kupwara, Muhammad Rouf Rehman at Galizoo Sports Stadium Kupwara in presence of DFO Kamraj, Anurag Arya.
CPO Kupwara, Parvaiz Ahmed Lone, Lt.Col. Rajiv of 153 TA, Iconic international Cricket player, Parvaiz Rasool, DYSSO Zahoor Ahmed, PA to DC, Shabir Ahmed Qureshi and officials of forest department were also present on the occasion.
The cricket league sponsored by Kamraj Forest Division, Zangli Kupwara with the support of local youth aims to foster camaraderie and sportsmanship among the youth besides hone their cricketing skills and raise awareness about forest protection.
A total of 16 teams across Kashmir division vying for glory, competing in a total of 30 action-packed matches with the final match scheduled to be played on August, 20, 2024.
Cricket enthusiasts and supporters can catch all the live action at Galizoo sports stadium which is providing a picturesque backdrop to the cricketing spectacle where all the matches are being hosted.
After the inauguration, ADC interacted with players and urged upon them to vigorously participate in sports activities apart from pursuing their academics. He said that such event will help to keep the young generation away from the drugs and social evils.
ADC also assured that the District Administration will provide every possible support to boost sports activities in the district.
While appreciating the efforts of the DFO Kamraj, the ADC expressed hope that the tournament will go a long way in raising awareness about forest conservation, saving forests besides inculcating leadership qualities and imbibe professionalism, team spirit and discipline among the players.
“By combining sports with a cause of saving forests shall make a significant impact on forest conservation efforts as sports have a positive and constructive role in our social and psychological development besides such events enabling youth to engage in positive pursuits” ADC asserted.
The inaugural match was played between Kanwal-Tigers and Sultan- Warriors on Thursday.
