Srinagar : Police on Friday said that it has arrested a drug peddler in Kulgam and also recovered huge quantity of contraband substance from his possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that while acting on specific inputs about hoarding of contraband substance in Shopping Complex at Nipora, a special team led by IC Police Post Mirbazar under the close supervision of SDPO Qazigund was constituted and the team thereafter raided the suspected place (Shopping Complex at Nipora) in presence of Executive Magistrate Wanpoh. Police in its statement further said that the said team during the raid recovered 30.8Kgs of Poppy Straw like substance and the accused identified as Mohd Ashraf KhandayS/o Ghulam Ahmad KhandayR/o Nippora was also arrested on the spot following which he was shifted to police station where he remains in custody.
Stating that a case under FIR No. 196/2024 was registered under relevant sections of law at Police Station Qazigund besides initiating further investigation into the case, Police in the concluding para of its above quoted statement appealed people to come forward and inform nearby Police unit or Dial 112 with any information regarding any social activity in their neighbourhood so that timely action against the culprits will be taken.
