Kulgam: Continuing the crackdown on sale of underweight cylinders, the Legal Metrology Department on Thursday slapped a fine of Rs. 75,000 on Anantnag based LPG bottling plant for supplying underweight LPG Cylinders for public distribution at Kulgam.
Earlier the field executives of Legal Metrology Department Kulgam under the supervision of Assistant Controller came across a consignment of cylinders meant for sale and supply in district Kulgam wherein a majority of the cylinders were found short in weight by about 200g per cylinder.
Subsequently the consignment was seized and a case was registered against the bottling plant from which the supply of the cylinders had been made. The offenders in this case pleaded before the department to compound their case which was accordingly compounded in terms of Section 48 of Legal Metrology Act 2009. The seized cylinders were released after the case was compounded and were returned to the supplier for their rectification before supplying them for public distribution.
It is worth mentioning here that the intensified drive against sale of underweight cylinders is being carried out on the directions issued by Controller Legal Metrology Department J&K, Majid K.A Drabu. This intensified drive across J&K has so far resulted in registering 7 major cases against the bottling plants and LPG Agencies.
Earlier, 02 Pulwama based LPG Agencies were also booked for underweight selling and distribution of LPG Cylinders and a Penalty of Rs. 80,000 was realized as fine from them.
Meanwhile, all the gas suppliers and agencies are being sensitized and made aware of the issue of sale of underweight cylinders and have been directed to ensure that each and every customer is provided gas delivery commensurate to the weight that they are entitled to and have paid for.
Any lapse in this regard will be strictly dealt with in terms of the provisions of the Legal Metrology Act, 2009 and LPG Regulation (Supply and Distribution Order) 2000. The Consumers are also advised to contact the Legal Metrology Department in case of noticing any short-weighment of Cylinders being delivered to them.
