NSS organises rally, pledge against drug abuse under ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat’ campaign at NIT Srinagar

Srinagar : The NSS unit of National Institute of Technology (NIT) on Wednesday organised a mega rally and pledge against the drug abuse under the ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat’ campaign in which students, faculty and other staff members participated.
The International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, observed every year on June 26th. This year its theme was ‘The evidence is clear: invest in prevention,’.
The annual campaign aims to raise awareness about the consequences of drug use which include physical and psychological harm, overdose deaths and societal problems.
The “Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan” is an initiative of Govt. of India which reiterates India’s fight against the menace of drugs. The event was organized under the close supervision of NSS Coordinator Dr. Jitendra Gurjar. Bungalow
The anti-smoking pledge ceremony was held at Main Faculty Block at 9:30 AM and was administered in both Hindi and English by faculty members.
Among the attendees were Prof. MA Shah, Dr. Manoj Kumar,Dr. Pramod Yadav, Dr. Ashok Kumar, Dr. Abdullah Ahmad, Dr. Farhad Ellahi Baksh, Dr. Mohd Zubair Ansari and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
Following the pledge ceremony, students carried out a mega rally from Fountain Park, culminating in an awareness rally at the Directors Office.
The participants carried banners and placards with powerful messages against drug abuse, drawing attention to the severe consequences of substance abuse and the importance of making healthy lifestyle choices.
NSS Coordinator, Dr. Jitendra Gurjar said that this program was organized to create a conducive environment for moderation and holistic development by promoting awareness, counselling and a healthy lifestyle.
He expressed his gratitude to Director NIT Srinagar Prof. A. Ravinder Nath, Institute’s Registrar, Prof. Atikur Rehman and other dignitaries for their continuous support to NSS unit on the campus.
He emphasized that combating drug abuse requires a multifaceted approach, including education, community support, and strong preventive measures.
“NSS unit at NIT Srinagar has been actively involved in various social initiatives aimed at the betterment of the community.
The “Nasha Mukt Bharat” campaign is a vital part of this endeavor, aiming to eradicate drug abuse through sustained awareness and preventive measures,” he added.
