Jammu/Nov.6: Police Monday arrested a constable of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB)at Banihal town of Jammu province. The SSB man allegedly mistook a security guard for a militant and shot him last night.
Sources said that Banihal police arrested constable Amit Chatya of 14 BN ‘A’ company SSB along with his service rifle from Chapnar area of Banihal.
They said that Showkat Ahmad Nayak, son of Gulam Nayak, resident of Chapnari Banihal was injured after SSB personnel posted at an under construction railway tunnel, five kilometres from Banihal, fired at him around 10 pm.
Nayak, according to sources, is posted as a security guard with a construction company. As the news of his injury spread, people took to streets and staged protest demonstrations. Nayak was shifted to Banihal hospital where he is being treated for shoulder injury.
