“Since the theme of this year’s International Yoga Day was “ Self and Society” , the name itself indicates that the main motive of celebrating International Yoga day celebrations in Srinagar is obviously transformation of society and empowerment of youth in Jammu & Kashmir.”

The celebration of the 10th International Yoga Day under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra in Srinagar has been a special occasion for youth in Jammu & Kashmir as it is all about the health and fitness.  The mushroom growth of wellness and fitness centres witnessed in recent years more in Kashmir Valley and comparatively less in Jammu region shows the unprecedented rise in the interest of youth in health and physical fitness across Kashmir. In fact the growth of health  and wellness centres has raised not only the levels of health consciousness among the people of all ages in Jammu and Kashmir but it has also led to unprecedented rise in the employment and income opportunities for the jobless youth in Jammu & Kashmir.   With youth finding in wellness and fitness centres new sources of economic and social transformation in Jammu & Kashmir the interest of youth in Yoga is also expected to show encouraging response in the coming years both in Kashmir Valley and as well as Jammu division. Since the theme of this year’s International Yoga Day was “ Self and Society” , the name itself indicates that the main motive of celebrating International Yoga day celebrations in Srinagar is obviously transformation of society and empowerment of youth in Jammu & Kashmir.  Since the tourists coming to Kashmir in millions too have a greater interest in Yoga, the conduct of this year’s international Yoga in Srinagar with Prime Minister himself leading it could be a source of a greater inspiration for millions of tourists in Jammu & Kashmir this year. As reports indicate that Yoga has already boosted tourism in states like Kerala, the celebration of International Yoga Day in Srinagar under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi could be the beginning for Yoga tourism in Jammu & Kashmir.

“For social transformation, boosting tourism and promoting health consciousness among the people of all ages the Government has placed Yoga at the centre of economic and social transformation in Jammu & Kashmir. The involvement and engagement of youth in this whole process shows Government’s interest in promoting Yoga for entrepreneurship in tourism and health sectors across Jammu & Kashmir.”

The growth of Yoga tourism as such could become yet another source of economic and social transformation for local youth in Jammu & Kashmir. Holding international events like G20 summit and International Yoga Day in Srinagar are obviously part of the initiatives the Government is taking to showcase Kashmir as all weather tourist destination within and outside the country.  For social transformation, boosting tourism and promoting health consciousness among the people of all ages the Government has placed Yoga at the centre of economic and social transformation in Jammu & Kashmir. The involvement and engagement of youth in this whole process shows Government’s interest in promoting Yoga for entrepreneurship in tourism and health sectors across Jammu & Kashmir.
