Ganderbal: Residents of Rayil and nearby areas in Gund, Ganderbal District, are facing significant health risks due to the supply of unfiltered water from the Jal Shakti Department. The unfiltered water has led to a rise in various diseases in the region.
In Shaajmarg and Nadpati, several water supply schemes are in place, but the absence of a filtration plant means that water is being supplied directly through pipes without proper treatment. Even the few water reservoirs in Nadpati fail to provide adequately filtered water. Alarmed by the health hazards, locals have appealed to the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Ganderbal and the Lieutenant Governor (LG) administration for immediate intervention. In response to these concerns, Executive Engineer of the Jal Shakti Department in Ganderbal, Er Samiullah-Ullah Beigh, offered a reassuring update, saying “Our new water filtration plant is ready, and we will commission it in one month. Residents will then receive filtered water”.
