Vikramadatiya’s blow to Mehbooba

Mehbooba’s challenges in election time

With Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti after a lot of dilly delaying tactics accepting the resignation of her party’s estranged MLC Vikramadatiya Singh the son of former Sadr e Reyasat Dr Karan Singh, it has been proved beyond doubt that the response of the senior PDP Minister Chowdhry ZulfikarAli let down by his own party President has been vindicated by the acceptance of the resignation in the end. The only marked difference shown in handling of the Vikramadatiya resignation row by PDP Chief and incumbent Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti is that Vikramadatiya Singh unlike Mehbooba has preferred party over regional politics. Had Mehbooba Mufti stood by her senior party leader and the incumbent minister Chowdhry Zulfikar Ali, Vikramadatiya would have got a strong message from the Chief Minister over the issue of political accountability within the party he has left. Unfortunately Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti virtually encouraged the dissidents within her own party PDP when she forced Chowdhry Zulfikar Ali to withdraw his remark on welcoming the resignation of Vikramdatiya barely within an hour after local new gathering agency KNS quoted Zulfikar as welcoming the resignation of Vikramadatiya. Had Mehbooba Mufti backed her senior party leader and the incumbent minister Chowdhry Zulfikar on response to Vikramadatiya’s resignation, no other legislator would dare to rise in revolt against the party in future. The long time Mehbooba Mufti took in accepting the resignation of Vikramadatiya Singh conveys the message that Chief Minister herself failed to pacify the outgoing party legislator and henceforth Chief Minister by all probabilities has failed to take a right decision to settle the issue with honour and dignity. Even naives can understand that Mehbooba has failed to prevail upon Vikramadatiya and hurt and humiliated her incumbent minister a party loyalist over the resignation of a dissident legislator. Interestingly Vikramadatiya has caused a severe blow to Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti over demands for deportation of rohingyas from Jammu and declaration of Hari Singh’s birthday a holiday and these are the issues dearer to BJP and absolutely unacceptable to PDP.

BJP has twice during last one year shown the ways of instigating dissidence in PDP and in both the cases the failure of the PDP top brass in countering BJP’s dissidence tricks has been exposed to the hit. Now it is for Mehbooba Mufti to ponder over the miscalculated decisions she has been taking as the President of her party and as Chief Minister as well.

This is not the first time BJP has used a sitting PDP legislator to instigate dissidence against PDP the ally but last year also BJP used a PDP loyalist legislator of Kargil to snatch a seat of legislative council from PDP the ally. So BJP has twice during last one year shown the ways of instigating dissidence in PDP and in both the cases the failure of the PDP top brass in countering BJP’s dissidence tricks has been exposed to the hit. Now it is for Mehbooba Mufti to ponder over the miscalculated decisions she has been taking as the President of her party and as Chief Minister as well.
