Srinagar: Eid-ul-Adha, commemorating Prophet Ibrahim’s sacrifice, was joyously observed across Jammu and Kashmir on Monday.

Significant congregations gathered at mosques, notably at Hazratbal Shrine where thousands worshippers assembled for prayers, including former chief ministers Farooq Abdullah, Omar Abdullah, and Mehbooba Mufti.

However, the historic Jamia Masjid in the old city didn’t host prayers as authorities denied permission to Anjuman Auqaf Jamia Masjid for Eidgah prayers.

Apart from Srinagar, Eid prayers were held in open-air Eidgahs across all districts of the Kashmir valley. Following the prayers, people hurried home to engage in traditional animal sacrifices. This year, residents purchased a variety of animals, including camels, for the sacrificial rituals, maintaining the customary observances of Eid-ul-Adha across the region.

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha conveyed his warmest wishes to the Muslim community, emphasizing Eid-ul-Zuha’s significance as a symbol of selfless sacrifice and unity.

He urged everyone to strengthen the spirit of brotherhood and unity, hoping the occasion would bring peace, prosperity, and joy to all.

An official said that the security was well-managed, with Eid prayers passing peacefully and no incidents reported

Meanwhile, the director general of police (DGP), RR Swain extends heartfelt greetings to the People Jammu and Kashmir on the occasion of Eid.

On the auspicious occasion of Eid-ul-Adha, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir, has also extended heartfelt greetings to the people of Kashmir.(KNS).
