Amar Singh College organises Annual Road Race for Girls, Event witnesses massive participation

Srinagar: The Department of Physical Education, Amar Singh College Srinagar on Wednesday organised the Annual College Road Race for girls.
Prof. Sheikh Ajaz Bashir, Nodal Principal Kashmir Division Colleges and Principal Amar Singh College flagged-off the road race, covering the distance of 5 kms from SKICC to Nishat, in the presence of Prof. Gurdeep Singh Sodhi Convener Sports Committee, and Dr. Tanveer Ahmad Bhat, Physical Director of the college.
The teaching and non-teaching staff from the institute were also present at the occasion.
Around 167 energetic students from different streams and 12 volunteers participated in the race enthusiastically, displaying a spirit of sportsmanship and resilience.
The college deployed the faculty at all the Ghats along the racing track in addition to the men in uniform by the traffic department and the availability of moving ambulances by the Department of Health & Medical Education to ensure a smooth and hassle-free race
The racers were received by Prof. Sheikh Ajaz Bashir, Principal; Prof. Nayeem Ahmad Khan, Head Department of Zoology and Prof. Sabina Rasool, Head Department of Education at the finishing line at Nishat Gardens.
SabreenaMaqbool of 2nd semester, Kounsar Jan of 2nd Semester and Afreen of 2nd Semester bagged 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions covering the distance in 22.25, 25.37 and 26.3 minutes, respectively.
Later in an impressive prize distribution ceremony at Nishat, the winners were awarded trophies and consolation prizes.
Addressing the racers at the function Prof. Sheikh Ajaz Bashir applauded the female students for their greater participation. He further accentuated that sports is a part and parcel of the curriculum and plays a vital role in the overall development of an individual. Prof. Ajaz assured the students that sports infrastructure shall be strengthened and the latest facilities shall be put in place to facilitate the students for better performance and to compete at the National level.
