Srinagar: Below is the weeklong timeline of public events held within and outside Jammu & Kashmir this week:-
1. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha chaired a high-level meeting to review the preparedness of District Administrations and various departments ahead of the annual Mata KheerBhawaniMela and Eid-ul-Adha festival. The meeting witnessed the presence of Chief Secretary AtalDulloo, DGP RR Swain, Principal Secretary Home Department ChandrakerBharti, ADGP Law and Order Vijay Kumar, Principal Secretary to Lt Governor, Administrative Secretaries, Divisional Commissioners, Deputy Commissioners, and senior officials from both Civil and Police Administration.
2. As the annual AmarnathYatra approaches, the Jammu and Kashmir administration has assured that all necessary arrangements and preparations are being finalised. The pilgrimage, set to begin on June 29, will span 52 days, concluding on August 19.
3. Prime Minister NarendraModi is likely to take oath for third successive term in office on June 9. BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) won a successive third term in office in the results of LokSabha elections declared on June 4.
4. Lt Governor Manoj Sinha inaugurated the two-day annual Youth Festival of National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) “SPECTRUM-24” at NIFT campus OmporaBudgam. The festival aims to provide opportunities for students of educational institutions in Kashmir Valley to explore their talents in performing arts, sports, fashion shows, and literary programs.
5. The Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education has declared the results of the class 12th Annual Regular 2024 examination for the Union Territory of J&K and Ladakh under the Uniform Academic Calendar, with 74.34 percentoverall pass percentage. Out of the 93,340 students enrolled, 69,385 students have successfully passed.
6. Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Law & Order J&K, Vijay Kumar on Thursday directed the officers to enhance security measures and mitigate potential risks by deploying anti-sabotage teams along the AmarnathYatra route to identify and neutralise any potential militant threats.
During a joint meeting at the Police Control Room in Kashmir, involving officers from the Police, Army, CAPFs, and other agencies, comprehensive discussions were held to ensure a safe, smooth, and incident-free AmarnathYatra (SANJY-2024).
7. Preparations for the Mata KheerBhawaniMela, a significant annual pilgrimage, are in full swing in the Tullmullah area of central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district. The festival, set to take place on 14th June this year, aligns with the auspicious occasion of JyeshthaAshtamibrimming the devotees with community spirit amid religious enthusiasm. The yatra is set to commence in Jammu on 12th June at 6 am, making a brief stop at Ramban before proceeding to key destinations including Tulmulla (Ganderbal), Tikker (Kupwara), Devsar (Kulgam), Manzgam (Kulgam), and Logripora (Anantnag). The pilgrimage is expected to reach its final destination by evening.
8. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha took a firm stand for environmental conservation at the “Our Land, Our Future” conference on World Environment Day in Sazgaripora, Srinagar. In a rallying call for collective action, Lt Governor Sinha emphasized the urgent need for land restoration to combat pressing challenges like land degradation, drought, and desertification.
9. Stressing that the real power lies with the people, National Conference President and former Member of Parliament, Dr. Farooq Abdullah, said that the opposition in Parliament has emerged stronger. Abdullah said that when he was in Parliament, the opposition was weaker and authoritarianism was rampant. “This time the opposition is stronger in the house. Back then, when I was there, we were weak and nobody used to listen to us. There was authoritarianism and that has ended now as people have spoken through their vote,” he said.
10. Sixty-eight per cent of the total 100 candidates in the fray on Jammu and Kashmir’s five Lok Sabha seats polled fewer than None Of The Above (NOTA) votes, according to Election Commission data. Cumulatively, 34,788 voters pressed the NOTA button in the five seats, showing their rejection of the candidates fielded by parties.
